St. Rose Men's Assistant Added to Boys Staff

Alleycats Soccer Club announced the hiring of former Siena College standout and current St. Rose Men's Soccer Assistant Coach Mike Matera today.  Mike will work primarily with our U-14 and U-17 boys’ teams. 

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to coach two teams at a top-notch youth soccer club here in Albany,” said Matera. “Being able to help lay the foundation and mold our youth players is exciting and I can’t wait to get started.” 

Matera will enter his third year as Assistant Coach at NCAA DII St. Rose in the fall, working under longtime Alleycats Coach John Ciano.  He is a 2014 graduate of nearby Siena College where he was a four-year starter and a team captain for the Saints. He was furthermore named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Rookie Team as a freshman in 2010.  After graduating, Mike went on to sign a professional contract with the Western Mass Pro Soccer Club of the ASL.

“We are thrilled to have Mike join our staff for the upcoming 2016/2017 season.  He is a fantastic, young coach with a very bright future and our players will certainly benefit from working with him.”

Mike spent the past few months working as an Assistant Coach for Reading United A.C. which is a is a premier minor league soccer franchise based in Reading, Pennsylvania that competes in the United Soccer League’s (USL) Premier Development League (PDL)—the top men’s pro-am league in North America. The team is the official Player Development Partner of the Philadelphia Union MLS team.  Mike helped lead the team to the 2016 Mid-Atlantic Division Championship.

The Trumbull, CT native has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Siena and holds a NSCAA National Coaching License.
