The Attack will play their fourth straight year in the Region 1 Northeast Regional League for the 2008 season

The Attack was accepted back into the Region 1 Northeast Regional League for the 2008 season. The Cats will be fighting to win the Blue Division, which looks to be a pretty competative one. It includes some familiar faces, with the LaGrange Hawks, HBC Elite, Oceanside Power and South Central Extreme all getting back in. There some new teams as well, such as the Boston Renegades and Coastal Fire from Maine. The Red Divison also includes familiar foes in Clifton Park Attack, The Eastchester Patriots, Seacoast United and Hicksville Liberty Breeze. The league matches are scheduled to run from early March and run through May. It should be another great season!

The Attack goes 1-0-1 at snow shortened MAPS Winter Showcase
An early Decemeber snow storm covered the fields and put a premature end to the 2007 MAPS Winter Showcase, but the Cats were able to get one good day of soccer in before heading home for the holidays. The Attack took on the Baltimore Shakedowns from Maryland in their first match Saturday and wind was definitely a factor in the game. Both sides were able to create the better opportunities with the wind at their back, but neither team could find the back of the net. The game ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

In the second game of the day, the Cats took on a familiar foe in HBC Elite, and was able to exact a measure of revenge for last years come from behind overtime win that HBC handed the Cats in the State Cup. This time there would be no come back for HBC, and the Attack was in control of the game from start to finish for a 2-0 win. In their first two tournaments of the season, the Attack has played very well defensively, posting five shutouts in six games.

The Attack wins their division at the 2007 NEWSS Showcase
The Cats started out fast posting a 4-0 win over Oakwood Premier from CT. Even thought the team really had not been back together for long this season, they looked as though they hadn’t missed a beat and created tons of scoring opportunities in a game that could have been even more one sided. As it turned out, the Cats would need those 4 goals to advance to the tournment finals.

The second game was a frigid night contest with an old NERP league aopponent Hicksville Liberty Breeze. With the temperature in the high 20s and a rough and muddy field, it was not ideal playing conditions by any stretch. The Cats started out fast and pressured Hicksville in the early going. Only 6 or 7 minutes into the game, Defender Jenna Conklin scored on a beautiful 25 yard shot to give the Attack a 1-0 lead. That would be all they needed as the defense made the one goal hold up. After the early going though, the offense could never really get in sync again and with a couple of it’s starting central midfielders not making the trip, the Cats were not able to control the middle of the field throughout the remainder of the game. For much of the rest of the game Hicksville held possesion but were only able to get off a few decent shots. They did keep the pressure up right until the end though.

The Sunday morning game was against RVC power, and even though it was evenly played, it was the Cats most lethargic game of the weekend. In fact, the entire pace of the game seemed slower than the others. Whatever it was, it worked to RVC’s advantage as they kept the game scoreless until the last 2 minutes when they scored on a shot from inside the box that went just inside the far post.

With the loss, the Attack thought it would come in second in it’s bracket, but they were able to advance on a goal differnetial tie breaker to face Easton Premier from CT in the finals.

The Championship game was an exciting and close matchup with both teams creating some good scoring opportunities during the match. The Cats were able to break through for an early score on a breakaway by striker Ashley Wilson. The Cat’s stingy defense clamped down from there and posted it’s third shutout of the tournament to take the championship.

The Attack will be going to the NEWSS and MAPS College showcases the next 2 weekends
The team will be going to the NEWSS College showcase the weekend after Thanksgiving and the following weekend will be traveling to Fort Dix NJ to the MAPS Winter Showcase.

These two events will give the girls a chance to be seen by some college coaches and will also serve as great pre-season tuneup tournaments. Good luck girls!

The Attack are Finalists at the Nordic Cup

The Alleycats came up with just enough goals when they needed them all weekend to make it into the finals at the Nordic Cup. Unfortunately, in the finals the offense just could not conjure up the same magic and with darkness falling and most of the other teams already on their way home, the Cats lost a heartbreaker 1-0 in double over time sudden death. Both teams gave it everything they had, and left it on the field, and that’s all you can ask for.

The Attack goes 2-1-1 at the PDA College Showcase

The Attack did not quite get the result they were looking for at PDA over the Memorial Day weekend, but played some good soccer just the same, finishing with 2 wins 1 loss and 1 tie.
They narrowly missed advancing to the semi-finals by 1 point in their bracket, losing the tie breaker on point differential to the YMS Comets from Yardley PA.
It was revenge of sorts for the Comets, who returned the favor that the Alleycats had handed them last spring, eliminating them in the semi-finals at the PDA Spring Kickoff.
The Comets had come from behind to tie the Cats 2-2 late in the game on the first day of the tournament in withering 90 degree heat.

The second game of the day was on a turf field which was later closed for afternoon play because of surface temperatures in excess of 100 degrees.
The Cats took on the South Coast Scorpions Elite from Braintree Mass. and it was an exciting game in which both teams gave it all they had and went back and forth going down to the wire.
With the score tied 2-2 and 10 seconds left, the Scorpions got
a corner kick which was deflected off several players and then off the far post before going in to give them a 3-2 victory just as the time ran out.

Despite the disappointing loss, the Cats picked themselves back up for the 3rd game, against the Rhode Island Rays and set the tone right away when Lauren Audi hit the cross bar from about 20 yards out in the first 30 seconds of the game. The Cats pressured them much of the first half getting quite a few opportunities, but
only went in to half time with 1 goal to show for it.
The Attack came out a little flat in the second half, which seemed to breath new life into the Rays, who knew they were still in the game.
The Rays generated a couple of good scoring opportunities in the second half.
They could not break through to tie the game though, and the game ended in a gritty, if not very pretty, 1-0 win for the Cats.

In their final game of the tournament Monday morning against Yankee United Glory, it was time for a little payback.
Last spring, Yankee United had defeated the Attack 1-0 in the Finals of the PDA Spring Kickoff on one shot that came early in the game that they made hold up for the 1-0 win.
This time the Cats were having none of the same!
Forward Ashley Wilson scored first for the Cats, and once the Cats had the lead they played aggressive high pressure defense which shut down the Glory’s attack.
The Cat’s broke through again for another score when Alyssa Pyle hit a nice high
arcing shot over the goalie head that sealed the 2-0 shutout win.
It was one of the Attack’s most complete games of the season thus far.
Both the offense and defense worked hard for the entire 70 minutes and earned the win.

Hopefully, the team did well enough to get invited back next year to this great
showcase tournament.

Cats tie Farmingdale in a game marred by terrible officiating.

The Attack broke a 1-1 tie midway through the second half of their northeast Regional League game against Farmingdale and seemed to be on the verge of a 2-1 win with less than a minute left.
The referee would not have it though, and gave Farmingdale possession on what should have been a foul on the Farmingdale defender who two hand pushed the Cats offensive player out of bounds flat on her face.
On the resulting throw in a Freedom player bicycle kicked the ball which deflected off the far post and went in to tie the game with only seconds left.
The officiating in the game was one sided and just horrible throughout.

Sunday, May 13
The Attack’s State Cup Run Ends in Double Overtime

The Attack gave up an early goal to visitiing HBC Elite on a high floater that went just under the cross bar but came back to tie the game and later take a 2-1 lead which it looked like would hold up for the win. Unfortunately, with about 3 minutes left to go in the game, a Cats defender was called for a questionable push in the back just outside the box and HBC was able to convert on the direct kick to tie the game and send it into overtime. After a scoreless 1st overtime period, HBC struck twice on the seemingly weary Cats in a 2 minute span late in the second overtime to pull off a 4-2 win from what seemed like sure defeat.

Sunday, May 6
Attack downs Hicksville Liberty Breeze 3-1 in Northeast Regional League Game
The Cats played very methodically in this game and except for about a 10 minute span late in the game, were in control from start to finish.
They were leading 3-0 when Hicksville made a late game run at them, scoring a goal
with about 5 minutes left to finish out the scoring.

The Attack Gets Second State Cup Win Over Clarkstown

Again the Attack started out slow, on yet another cold and gloomy day, but just like the game before, they kept taking lots of shots and kept the pressure Clarkstown throughout the game. The Cats dominated the game from start to finish and the defense kept the Clarkstown attack in check all day. Eventually, just by determination and the sheer law of averages, the Cats were able to put a couple of shots in for the 2-0 win.

Sunday, April 29
The Cats defeat the New Hampshire Phantoms 2-0
The Attack got off to a slow start playing at Union College’s turf field on a cold and dreary day. It wasn’t that they weren’t creating opportunities, but they were just a little out of sync, and couldn’t finish for the score.
The girls kept methodically plugging away at it though, until they were finally rewarded for their efforts with a couple of scores for the 2-0 Northeast Regional League shutout win.
The Cat’s defense denied the Phantoms all day and kept them from getting much going.

Monday, April 23
Attack and Eastchester play to a 1-1 tie in a great game.
The Cats played one of their best games of the season thus far battling to a 1-1
tie with a good Eastchester Patriots side in a Northeast Regional League away game at the Maritime Academy.
Everyone who was at the game came away saying it was a great soccer match.

Sunday, April 22
The Attack Wins it’s First State Cup Game on the Road

The Alleycats started their 2007 State Cup run in fine fashion defeating the New Rochelle Sonics on the road 4-2. The Cats controlled the first half and built up a 2-0 lead at halftime, but New Rochelle came out fired up to start the second half and scored early on to cut the defecit to 2-1. The Cats weathered the Sonics run at them though, and tacked on a 3rd goal to make it 3-1. Both teams added a late game goal, with the game ending in the 4-2 final score.

Sunday, April 1
The Cat’s late game jinx continues against the Amazons. Game ends in a tie.

On a beautiful spring afternoon the Cats came out warmed up and ready to go against the
Yorktown Amazons. They pressed the attack early and were up 2-0 before the Amazons broke through on a score late in the half. The Attack made it 3-1 early in the second half and seemed to be cruising when the old second half jinx came back to haunt them.
The Amazons scored again shortly after the Cats third goal and then added another with about 2 minutes left to pull out a tie. Once again, a game that seemed in hand finished as a tie.
Monday, March 12
Attack has lead early , but can’t hang on against Oceanside Power in NERP home opener.

On a cold March day the cats came out and played well early in the game scoring first.

Oceanside came back to tie the game 1-1 midway through the 1st half, but the Cats got another score right before the half ended to go into half time with a 2-1 lead.

Unfortunately, they could not hold it. Midway through the second half Oceanside gained momentum and were on the attack offensively.

With only about 5 minutes to go in the game they scored twice in about a 2 minute span

to put the game away.

The Alleycats are away for their next Northeast Regional League contest taking on the Amazons

in Yorktown.

Saturday, March 10
Cats let a win get away and settle for a tie against South Central Xtreme.

Danbury CT-
Despite missing their starting goalie, the Cats dominated the first half
cruising to a 2-0 half time lead. They could not score again in the second half to put the game away despite several good opportunities. The home team, South Central Xtreme did not generate much
offense the entire game, but were able to take advantage ot the Cats inexperienced backup goalie on set plays in the final 15 minutes of the game. First the Xtreme scored off of a direct kick
with about 15 minutes left, and then on a corner kick with less than two minutes
remaining to pull out a 2-2 tie in the 2007 spring season opener for both teams.
The Attack take on Oceanside Power next Sunday at home.
The game is at 2:00pm at Union College’s College Park Field.
