Women’s USASA U20 Team

What are your plans this summer?
The Albany Alleycats will be forming a U20 Women’s Team this summer. Training will begin in May, Games from June to July and wrapping up by August.
The U20 team is actually part of something larger! The U20 team is really 2 steps below the Women’s Pro League. Why? Because this summer the Alleycats will have a Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) Team and for those girls...the next step is the Pro league baby! Wouldn’t be cool to play against some of those players? Are you in? The plan is pretty simple for the 20’s...Train like crazy...and prepare for the fall season...high school, college...it doesn’t matter! The key is to be around players like you who have a passion for the game and take soccer seriously.
In May training will take place on Tuesday and Thursdays at The College of Saint Rose from 6:00-7:30pm. Training will begin May 3. June and July training sessions have not been scheduled yet but will hold a similiar schedule at a facility to be determined.
8-10 games will be scheduled for this team from mid June to the end of July (1-2 games week!). We wil play teams in our division both home and away. The teams are from Connecticut and Massachusettes. Travel time from Albany will be from 1.5-3 hours. We will be playing against other U20 teams that have teams in the WPSL. Also included in the schedule will be playing for the USASA National Championship! July 16-17 we will be headed to Manalapan, NJ to contend for the Region 1 Championship.
How will the U20 team be selected? There will not be a tryout for this team as the primary focus is on creating a competitive training environment. However, if necessary when choosing who will play in games, the deciding factors will be based on commitment, ability and position needed.
This team will be made up of a healthy mix of high school and college players (freshman/Sophomores/Juniors). All of the players will most likely come from the capital region. It is very possible some of the WPSL players that are not seeing much action in matches will be placed on the travel roster to get game time in.
The team will be coached by Matt Jones (current Head Men’s Coach at the College of Saint Rose) and PJ Motsiff (owner and General Manager of the WPSL team).
The cost of the team is $350. The fee will pay for USASA player passes, Facility rental, coaches travel, training fees, administrative fees, necessary equipment and 2 training T’s/ 1 pair of shorts. Uniforms will be borrowed and provided on a match by match basis. (Current Alleycats with a 2010-2011 player pass will not pay the training/coaching fee for May/June but will need to cover the other expenses. Your cost is $200).

So I can’t afford the fee but really want to be a part of this....WE STILL NEED HOST FAMILIES for some of the WPSL players. Your fee will be waived if you can become a host family.
Host Family Responsibilities:
· Provide living accommodations which include: a bed, and in-home laundry facilities.
· Access to meals/food in the home when the player is not traveling.
· Players must be able to come and go from the home according to their schedule (i.e. arriving home very late from an away game)
Transportation is NOT a host family responsibility!!
Benefits of being a host family:
· Get to know a potential professional player
· Good family entertainment
· Role model for host family children
· Get to know the players and families from all over the country
· Lifelong friendship
· Help make it possible for the Albany community to have a women’s amateur soccer team
· Costs associated with hosting a player are tax deductible
Frequently Asked Questions:
What happens if a host family goes on vacation?
Once a family gets to know their player, they often choose to let the player continue to live at the home during the vacation period. If the family is not comfortable with this option, the Alleycats organization will place the player at another host family’s home for the vacation period.
When do players arrive and how long do they stay?
As a rule all of the players arrive around May 7th; however, some players have commitments to their college teams that bring them in later.
Do all the players have their own transportation?
Not all players bring their own vehicles, but most do. Those who do not are placed in host family situation where there is another player either living close or in the same house. Under no circumstance should a player use a host family’s private vehicle.
